Experienced Shinkansen for the first time today! I took a train from Matsumoto to Nagoya and from there took a Shinkansen bullet train to Kyoto. It was indeed a fast train.
Just a quick note - for anyone planning on taking trains around Japan, Hyperdia is a great site, tells you the times of the trains as well as the platform the leave from! It's been a godsend.
Anyway, arrived in Kyoto, bought some Yakisoba from a guy on the street, chilled in a park for a while, then headed to Kyoto Botanical Garden.
It was closed :(
So I went to my hostel and lay around, chatted to family and planned for the rest of my stay in Kyoto.
